Moral values for me, are all about reflection.

There are things we thought we have done it right, but in another perspective, we have not. I think moral code provides us perfect opportunity to do something that others seem to constantly forget - reflecting on our own humanity.

1. Is it wrong to ridicule (mock, make someone look stupid) someone, even though it’s in good fun?

If the other person finds it okay and even play along with it, then it’s not necessarily wrong. It can serve as a good laugh in a friendly setting.

But if we cross the line of being fun and make the other feel uncomfortable, then it’s wrong. Just because it is fun to you may not be fun to others. For example, fat shaming, body shaming anyone, even friends, is just way past the line.

2. Should you bend the rules to advance your careers?

Bend the rules: do something that is usually not allowed in the process – not following the rules (inappropriate connections and relationships for example).

I believe you should not bend the rules to help advance your careers.

Bending the rules in every way is a type of disrespect to others’ hard work. By disobeying the rules and cheating your way to the top, you have it too easy, but others have it hard.

In a long term, it’s harmful to the company, to a community, because the person who bended the rules is very unlikely to perform as well as he or she is supposed to in his or her position.

3. Is there anything wrong with pornography?

In a sense, some people always have an ill opinion of pornography industry and its workers. They say things like there are no morals, it’s disgusting, shameful, etc. However, I personally believe that a job is a job, because there is a demand for this type of product everywhere, no matter how many people are against it. It exists. These people are just doing their job. And as ridiculous as it may seem to some people, we are obligated to respect the porn workers as every other worker out there.

On the other hand, I also strongly condemn the fact that almost all of the porn platforms portray women in an objectified way. Women are seen as sex objects – human beings that do not have any controls over any situations that they are in and do not get the respect that they deserve. This is dangerous in the sense of creating toxic stereotypes about women, and it is one of many reasons sexism exists in our society. Porn can destroy our values as well, as it has the power to influence and even replace behaviors in your mind without you even being consciously aware of what you are seeing. In fact, watching an unhealthy amount of pornography is scientifically proven to be harmful to humans’ body, mind and quality of life altogether.

4. Should we try to keep people alive at all costs, no matter what their physical or mental condition?

I personally think every life is precious and actually matters. We have so much to live for in this life that it would be such a waste to let go of the opportunity to try to become a better person who can do good for our society. However, I do think that the length of our lives do not necessarily resonate with our quality of life. To some people, the longer they live, the more suffers they have to endure. That is, they have to suffer from an incurable disease or illness, or they were born with certain symptoms and physical disorders that would prevent them from having a normal healthy life. Or to some others, mental disorders are attributed to their misery, to the point that life is no longer a blessing, but a curse every day. We are thinking regarding the weakened individual’s point of view, but how about their loved ones? I cannot imagine how much pain they must have felt, wanting their dear one to be alive, to stay alive a little more with them, yet incredibly having to be struck and saddened by the fact that their loved one has to suffer on their own every day. Human life is precious, but if life has become so hellish to the point we cannot bear to go on anymore, the grand question “Should we try to keep people alive at all costs regardless of their condition?” suddenly become so small among the world of complicated This is such a complex moral dilemma that I think I have not had enough experiences to form a definite answer

5. Should people be given equal opportunities, regardless of race, religion, or gender?

Yes, I absolutely agree with this statement. People should be given equal opportunities regardless of race, religion, or gender. This is definitely one of the most valuable assets to have in a perfect society, but the reality is more complex than it already is. The utopia is such society where each individual gets equal chances in every aspect of life.

Discrimination in any way is wrong and uncalled for. We don’t know how person is until we meet them and get to know them for real. Threfore, we should not judge someone’s character and values merely based on their race, religion or gender. I have seen people getting denied job opportunities just because of their race and not because of how qualified they are in the job. And that is upsetting to say the least.
